Here is a success secret that most people don’t realize. For the ultra-successful, those who work what seem like crazy hours, are labeled “workaholics” and the success driven – it is not really about the money. In fact, after a certain level of success, money quickly becomes a secondary concern.

Achieve More and Eliminate Stress

It was 4 pm. I had three pages of tasks left to finish. I could feel the acid churning in my stomach. I grabbed a box of tums and sighed in despair. I felt like a hamster running on a wheel.

I had started with a dream to achieve something great with my company. I was working hard and getting lots done. But for some reason I wasn’t happy. Soon my productivity decreased. I was having health issues due to the stress and my relationships were going downhill.

That is when I realized I was so busy focusing on my goal that I had lost sight of the reasons why I was trying to reach it. This issue is common with business owners. That is why so many get divorced and develop serious health issues while building their business.

Worse still is when they reach their goal and still feel unfulfilled. Their drive ended up being an attempt to fill a void.

Four Types of People to Avoid (Are You One?)

There are four types of people I do not tolerate in my life. It does not matter if they are co-workers, business partners, friends, strangers, clients or even family members.

  1. Those who lie. Even small white lies. One of the things I love about my wife is that she is brutally honest… even when it comes at my expense. Those who lie or lie by omission are IMMEDIATELY removed from my inner circle. It shows a bad sense of character and weakness to me.
  2. Those who gossip at someone else’s expense. Of course everyone is curious about others, it is human nature, but when talking about someone behind their back is negative it serves no purpose and it is just wasted breath.
  3. People who are negative and put others down really get under my skin. They only see the bad instead of the good and have a hard time being happy because their rules to achieve happiness are so hard to meet. Most of them seem to have a sense of learned helplessness.
  4. Hypocrites. This one grates on my nerves the most. Walk your talk or shut up. And you better not even think of trying to tell me what to do.

While I understand the psychology behind why they do what they do, I still don’t want to be around them or have them a part of my life.

For example:  talking bad about someone else to feel better about yourself happens because it is easier to try to tear someone down then go up to their level. I even understand that most of the time this is a subconscious trigger for them and they will deny it as the reason if you confront them with it. They will make excuses to justify their behavior.

Once I lose respect for someone it is very difficult for them to get it back.

If you find yourself being one of the four types above, really take a look at why you are acting that way. I bet it boils down to wanting to feel liked and accepted; or to feel a level of power when you really feel a sense of weakness or helplessness. Jealously is also a feeling of being less superior to someone else, so it definitely falls within these categories.

The American Dream is the goal of being able to provide a better life for our children and the philosophy that anyone can achieve success if they work hard enough. However, the extremely high rate of business failures shows us that hard work and desire are not enough. As an entrepreneur you must be able to innovate and lead your company to success. Based on my life experiences of running multiple companies (I’m currently running ten business ventures simultaneously) and consulting hundreds more worldwide, I feel the following fifteen traits are essential to becoming a successful entrepreneur.

01. Confidence

Confidence is the corner stone of being an entrepreneur. You must absolutely belief in yourself, your abilities, your company, your products and services. There should be no doubts whatsoever about what you are doing, the benefits you provide, or the price you are charging. Side note: Many entrepreneurs undervalue themselves and charge too little. This is a deadly mistake.

 

02. Courage

Being courageous means doing something despite being fearful. Fear paralyzes people and companies. You must be proactive in overcoming fears to take action. Whether it is picking up the phone to call a prospect, negotiating with a vendor, speaking in public or having to let go of an employee who is not performing. The best way to get past your fears is to take them head on and without thinking.

03. Action-Oriented

You have to be willing to take massive and consistent action on a daily basis to achieve your goals. Having a strong work ethic is an absolute must and your success is directionally proportional to the level of action you take.

 

 

 

04. Perseverance

The majority of businesses fail because the entrepreneur gives up. There will always be very difficult challenges that come up. You have to realize that even if the worst happens it is not the end of the world and you must have the attitude of never giving up. This was a trait I developed through my martial arts training as a child. It is one of the most powerful attributes a person can develop.
